The origin of Karate…
…was developed in the 17th century in the Ryukyu Kingdom on what is today known as Okinawa, Japan.
During the 1930’s Gichin Funakoshi expanded Karate and founded his Shotokan school on the Japanese mainland.
Justice Karate American Shotokan is traditional Shotokan Karate, styled by American influences. JKAS instructs in the traditional forms of Okinawan Karate and blends award winning fighting techniques into practical exercises and drills.
Since 1973 JKAS has instructed over a thousand students, influenced hundreds of practitioners, and shepherded many of Richmond and Henrico County youth onto successful academic and life paths.
